Presentation Report

Last week on Tuesday April 19, Hassan Jassim and Hassan Abdulla gave a presentation about expats. They started off by saying the main points that they would focus on.
Their presentation was really interesting. Hassan Jassim started listing the reasons of migration and its negative points, which gave us some idea about migration and how bad it could be, like the increase of crimes. He was giving a lot of eye contact which made the audience pay more attention to the presentation.
Afterwards Hassan Abdulla started talking about the positive side of migration and how it will benefit one’s country, if a certain profession isn’t that popular amongst the nationals but is needed later on being filled by an immigrant instead.  He as well listed some solutions in order to reduce the amount of needed immigrant which in return can make one’s country much more independent; one of the solutions was to train nationals for specific fields.
Later on that allowed us to ask questions which resulted in a debate between the teacher and both of the Hassans about immigration. I as well asked a question to Hassan Jassim and got an answer that wasn’t that clear.
Overall their presentation was good and had a lot of energy in it, making a lot of the audience ask questions about the presentation.

Reflection 1

As the secretary of the meeting it was my job to write all what happens in the meeting. I still as well shared my opinions and my thoughts about the major problems in our meeting discussion. The chair of the meeting opened the topic well and the participants had a lot of great ideas that they shared with us. This enabled us to learn from some of their thoughts as well. This meeting has taught us a lot; we have learned a lot about clean energy through sharing our thoughts with each other and mainly how to organize a meeting to find ways to solve certain problems.

The Minutes

LSEC N101                  Meeting Assessment             Section: CEK
Date of meeting: 7/3/2011
Time of meeting: 4:10 pm
Venue: Class room W007
Group members:
Chair: Hasan Jassim Al-Hammadi
Minutes taker: Hamdan Al shamsi
Participants: Hasan Abdulla Al-Hammadi

 Venue preparation:  none

Objectives:
As time passes, the UAE depends more and more on oil as the main supply of energy. Since oil is a non-renewable energy this can lead to the depletion of oil sooner rather than later. Oil as well is one of the main sources of pollution. Continuing depending on oil so much can lead to a harder life for the future generations. To stop the constant use of oil for energy we should turn to a cleaner and a more suitable source for energy. Renewable energies are the solution for a cleaner future.

Venue: Class room W009
Date : 8/3/2011
Time: 2:30pm
Group members:
Chair: Hasan Jassim Al-Hammadi
Minutes: Hamdan Al shamsi
Participants: Hasan Abdulla Al-Hammadi
Agenda:
1-      Introduction. Problem of oil.
2-       Results of using oil as a main supply of energy.
3-      Moving to alternative energy.
4-      Using renewable energy.
5-      Most suitable alternative energy for the UAE.
6-      In conclusion how this will affect the future of the UAE.

The Minutes
We are in the class room W007, having a meeting about the problems of how we get our energy and the problems about the current ways of getting it. Hassan J. called us for the meeting due to the fact that he thinks that oil is a huge problem.
Hassan J. said that oil is a huge problem worldwide; he said that it causes a lot of pollution which will affect our health and the health of our future generations. He said as well that oil is one of the main reasons of damaging the ozone layer due to the pollution that it causes resulting in global warming.
Hassan A. said that this problem mainly just affects our country; the reason is because some countries don’t have enough oil to use for energy. Hamdan A. explained the situation saying that those countries that don’t have enough oil usually import oil from a country that is rich in oil which makes this a global problem. Hassan J. agreed with Hamdan A. that this is a global problem.
Hamdan A. said that oil is a problem but using alternative sources of energy can be really expensive and time consuming; it won’t be as efficient as oil, which in result can cost a lot of money without offering us the necessary amount of energy. Hassan J. disagreed with Hamdan A. and said that if we use geothermal energy as a source of energy, even if it does consume time and it’s expensive, it will greatly reduce the pollution that we have in the UAE.
Hassan A. said that the best alternative way of getting energy in the UAE is solar power. He said because in the UAE the sun usually shines giving us the advantage of harvesting a lot of energy through solar panels. Hassan J. partially agreed with Hassan A. but Hassan J. said that using a lot of solar panels can be too expensive to use it to supply a lot of areas in the UAE with solar energy. He said that getting energy through geothermal sources was a good idea since the UAE is a country with a really high temperature giving it the possibilities of being a good place for geothermal energy.
Hamdan A. said that we can use all three types of alternative energies which are solar, geothermal and wind energy. He said that since the UAE is a desert country it will have the possibility of having a good amount of wind. He said that using all three will first cut down the costs of just using solar energy and lower the amount of time to build multiple geothermal plants. Hassan A. and Hassan J. agreed with Hamdan’s point of view.
At the end of the meeting we all came to a conclusion. Hassan A. said that using these types of source of energy can dramatically reduce the amount of oil that we use for energy and hopefully in the future we won’t depend much on oil. Hassan J. agreed with Hassan A. and he added that heading towards a cleaner source of energy can allow us to have a healthier future for the next generations. Hamdan A. agreed with both of them and added that this will probably lead to less pollution and the conservation of the amount of oil we have for the next generations.
